The Thogoto branch of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa has initiated an inquiry into disturbing reports of mistreatment of senior individuals at the PCEA Thogoto Care Home for the Elderly in Kikuyu, Kiambu.

The church stated that it’s collaborating with relevant stakeholders on-site and the National Council of Churches of Kenya to guarantee a comprehensive inquiry takes place.

“We have learned from social media of the circulating information about Thogoto Home for the Aged. We don’t condone any unjust or inhumane treatment to any member of the society whether young or old and especially our senior members within the community,”

In a revelation by the BBC, two undercover reporters, whose family members were admitted to the facility, gained employment within the establishment equipped with concealed cameras. They captured on film what is claimed to be mistreatment of the elderly.

The residence is believed to have been founded by the Women’s Guild of the nearby PCEA church but operates independently. In one of the videos captured secretly, a resident purportedly remained unsupervised as they consumed food placed on a table.
